ENTRY EDITOR

General

In Entry Editor you work on the data of a single password (secret key) entry of the database. The editor serves both for creating new and modifying existing records. As useful external effects, username and password may get copied to the System-Clipboard or URL reference started in the external browser.

Work Panels

Data of an entry are organized into several work panels. There are at least two and at most four work panels available. How many there really are depends on actual data of the record and settings in program preferences.

Possible work panels are Login, Notes, Times und History.

Panel "Login"

Work panel Login encompasses the main data group of an entry and contains fields Title and Password, which are mandatory for each database entry. Basic idea of this group is that there exists a protected target zone for which username and password may sufficiently serve as prove of access legitimity.

Control Elements

Group	Editable choice field, which can assign an entry to a group. All already used group names are available here for choice. More to that, new group names may get created by simply editing the field text. Groups are organized hierarchically in a tree; singular nodes of the tree are separated by a dot '.' character.
Title	Text. Designation of an entry. This field has always to be assigned, but a value may appear more than once in the database.
Username	Text. Username, which e.g. may be relevant for the LOGIN into a protected zone. The username may be copied into System-Clipboard through icon in the tool bar.
Password	Text. Password (or passphrase), which e.g. may be relevant for the LOGIN into a protected zone. This field has always to be assigned. In display it can optionally be held covered and shown or hidden through use of button "Show/Hide Password". It is recommended to have new passwords created by aid of automated function "Generate Password", in order to provide maximum security. The password may be copied into System-Clipboard through icon in the tool bar.
Notes	Text area. A multi-lined text area may be used for notes of any kind. This field is equipped with a context menu (via right-click) and can get torn off into a separate editor window by clicking icon . Beside the benefits of a size-adjustable editor, this gives you the advantage of administering notes parallel to other work panels. (This field is unavailable if the Notes work panel is enabled.)
URL	Text. Statement of an Internet-Address (e.g. website), which is understood as target zone for the LOGIN. By use of icon a valid address contained within the field will get launched in the external browser. If the field, however, happens to be empty, an Internet-address contained in the System-Clipboard is assumed as value.

Panel "Notes"

Work panel Notes contains the text area Notes of the entry, if program preference "Display->edit NOTES in separate panel" is checked. Otherwise this field is contained in smaller form within panel Login.

Panel "Times"

Work panel Times contains time information which is related to the record in total or the password in specific. It allows the statement of an expire date for the password.

Information Elements

Record Created	Time. Time-point when the record was created. This information stays unchanged for the lifetime of an entry. (However, for a duplicate of an entry this value is updated.)
Record Modified	Time. Time-point when the record was last modified. Modifications relate to data elements which can get edited by the user. (Note that this value remains unchanged during a single editor session.)
Password Accessed	Time. Time-point when the password was last used. A usage event occurs when the password has been copied into System-Clipboard by use of some command element (e.g. toolbar icon). If the value is displayed grey, it means that usage events are currently not evaluated. (In order to evaluate such events, program preference "General->store minor database changes" has to be checked.)
Password Modified	Time. Time-point when the password was last modified.
Passwort Expiry	Time. Time-point when the password will become invalid. Display "?" means the password is valid unlimited. Expiry date can get modified by use of the following control elements.

Control Elements

Duration of Validity	Choice field with several time-spans for the validity of the password, measured from the date of its last modification. By selection of a choice, the expiry date of the password is fixed in a simple way. Moreover, stating a time-span has the advantage that modification of the password at a later time will cause automatic re-calculation of the expiry date.
Special Expiry Date	Text input dialog. With this dialog a special expiry date can be set up for the password, e.g. when stating a fix time-span is not suitable.

Panel "History"

Work panel History stores up to 255 backward versions of the password. Each modification of the password in panel Login automatically causes entry of the old value into password history, provided the history function is not switched off. The maximum number of entries into history can be set up individually for each database record, the default value is 16. Note that this panel is only displayed if the history contains at least one entry.

Control Elements

Clear	Funktion. This function erases the entire password history.
Maximum	Function. Here the maximum number of stored passwords in the history can be set to a value between 0 and 255. If history list exceeds the maximum value, the oldest entries get removed. This also holds for current entries through password modifications.
Off	Function. With this function password history gets switched off. In "Off"-state no modifications get protocolled and the work panel is invisible. Icon in the toolbar shows, that history function is switched off. By click on this icon, history can get activated again.
